Andy Bauman is a father, husband, attorney, real estate investor, and dedicated public servant. He and his wife, Dr. Debbie Bauman — both Emory University dual-degree graduates — have lived in metro Atlanta for forty years and in Sandy Springs since 1999. They raised two children here and they are active members of Temple Sinai.
Andy’s background spans law, business, and civic leadership. He was a partner at the Sandy Springs law firm Altman, Kritzer & Levick before transitioning to real estate, serving as a principal and general counsel for a local firm. His expertise in law and business has informed his commitment to responsible growth, economic development, and delivering value for taxpayers.
Andy and Debbie enjoy spending time outdoors—hiking the river trails in Sandy Springs with their dogs, Luna and Ozzie. Andy stays active playing pickleball, competitive softball, tennis and golf, while both are avid supporters of the arts and frequent events at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center and throughout metro Atlanta.
Andy is well known in Sandy Springs for co-founding the Sandy Springs Farmers Market—transforming a former Target parking lot into a vibrant community gathering place that continues to thrive at City Center. That same passion for strengthening community led him to run for office, and in 2013, he was elected to the City Council to represent District 6. He’s been re-elected twice since, earning a reputation as a responsive, solutions-focused advocate for Sandy Springs residents.
Andy's leadership on Council has always been about building a thriving, connected city that works for everyone. Andy played a key role in developing City Center, ensuring it prioritized public use and served as a cultural and community focal point. He led key sidewalk initiatives, including the Dudley Sidewalk project, which now safely connects residents to Chastain Park. He also pushed for the Lake Forrest Drive sidewalk project, (soon to be constructed) securing its priority status in the latest TSPLOST.
Andy has consistently prioritized public safety. He envisioned and helped launch the city’s first responder housing program, repurposing surplus city-owned homes to provide affordable housing for our public safety personnel for nearly a decade. He also was instrumental in the city’s purchase of the former WorldPay building for the new police headquarters.
Andy has been a champion on the City Council for sustainability, leading efforts to modernize Sandy Springs’ environmental ordinances, saving taxpayers money while preserving our environment. He also spearheaded the use of GIS technology to improve tree canopy calculations.
A strong supporter of the arts, Andy helped bring the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival to the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center and played a role in establishing the City Springs Theatre Company. His efforts have made Sandy Springs a cultural destination.
Andy's commitment to building an inclusive, just and safe city has been a hallmark of his service. Andy led the passage of Sandy Springs’ Hate Crime Ordinance in 2019, the first municipal ordinance of its kind in Georgia, ahead of the state’s own adoption of similar legislation.
Beyond City Hall, Andy has long been active in civic and community life. He served on the Board of Directors for the Emory Federal Credit Union, held leadership roles with the American Jewish Committee and the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, and coached youth baseball at Chastain Park for a decade. In 2016, he was appointed by the late Georgia House Speaker David Ralston to the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust.
Andy Bauman’s leadership is grounded in experience, guided by intergrity and driven by a deep belief in the power of local government to serve all of its people. He is committed to collaboration, innovation, transparency and sustainability to ensure residents get the best value for their tax dollars and every neighborhood thrives.
